Accounts Assistant (Payroll & Management Accounts)

Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum

Verity Accountants is seeking an experienced and motivated Accounts Assistant to join our finance team in Lea Bridge, East London.

This is a permanent position best suited to someone with at least 2 years' experience in an accounting role who is looking for long-term career progression within a professional and supportive practice.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our clients' financial operations, with a strong focus on payroll, reconciliations, management accounts, HMRC submissions, and VAT returns.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on time.
• Preparing and submitting HMRC payroll submissions (RTI).
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Producing management accounts for clients.
• Performing bank, supplier, and account reconciliations.
• Managing purchase ledger and accounts payable processes.
• Processing invoices and supplier payments.
• Maintaining accurate financial records using Sage 50, QuickBooks, and other accounting software.
• Assisting with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and accounting standards.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

• A minimum of 2 years' experience in an Accounts Assistant, Accounts Payable, Bookkeeper, Payroll, or similar accounting role.
• Strong experience processing payroll.
• Experience preparing and submitting HMRC payroll returns (RTI).
• Experience completing VAT submissions.
• Experience producing management accounts.
• Strong experience carrying out bank and account reconciliations.
• Experience using Sage 50, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software.
• High attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
• The ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
• An AAT qualification (or studying towards one) is desirable but not essential.
