Jobs in Harlow

Harlow is a post-war new town of around 90,000 people in west Essex, on the Hertfordshire border, built around designated industrial areas and now a base for defence, logistics and life-sciences employers on the London-Stansted-Cambridge corridor. Current vacancies are concentrated in warehousing and distribution, engineering and manufacturing, healthcare, and the office and technical roles at Kao Park.

The largest single employer is the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Hamstel Road (CM20), an acute trust with around 4,000 staff serving west Essex and east Hertfordshire, covering clinical, nursing, administrative and support roles. The other main site is Kao Park off London Road, where Raytheon UK has its head office (Kao One, CM17 9NA) alongside Pearson, so defence engineering, software and professional roles are clustered there. The Templefields and Pinnacles estates hold most of the industrial employment: Clarins and Astro Lighting are at Templefields, along with food production, fuel distribution and a range of logistics and engineering firms. Much of the warehouse and production work is filled through recruitment agencies on temporary and shift contracts, so a large share of entry-level and HGV-related vacancies come via agencies rather than directly.

Harlow Town station runs Greater Anglia services to London Liverpool Street in about 30 minutes on the fast trains, with Cambridge and Stansted Airport to the north. Stansted is a significant source of jobs within reach. The M11 runs along the eastern edge, with junction 7 at Hastingwood and the newer junction 7a to the north-east of the town. For postcodes, CM20 covers the town centre and the hospital, CM17 takes in Old Harlow, Church Langley and Kao Park, and CM18 and CM19 cover the southern and western neighbourhoods.
