Business Development Lead - Land & Joint Forces

Are you an experienced Business Development professional with a strong understanding of the Land and Joint Forces defence landscape? Do you have a track record of selling high-value consultancy, engineering services and technology solutions into complex military environments?

We are seeking a commercially ambitious Business Development Lead to drive growth across the Land Defence market. This role is focused on identifying, shaping and winning consultancy-led engineering programmes that support military modernisation, operational advantage and mission success.

As a leading technology and engineering consultancy, our client help defence customers solve complex challenges through specialist technical expertise, advanced research, technology development, systems engineering and innovation services. Rather than selling products, you will be selling consultancy and engineering capabilities that help defence organisations develop, evaluate and deploy next-generation technologies.

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities



Business Development & Market Growth

• Develop and execute a growth strategy focused on Land and Joint Forces customers.
• Build strategic relationships across the MOD, Front Line Commands, DE&S, Defence Digital, the Army, NATO programmes, defence primes and specialist suppliers.
• Identify opportunities where consultancy-led engineering and technical support can provide measurable operational value.
• Position the organisation as a trusted technology partner capable of supporting research, experimentation, concept development, trials, system design and capability delivery.

Consultancy Sales & Opportunity Creation

• Generate new business opportunities for engineering consultancy, technical advisory services, research programmes and capability development projects.
• Engage military and industry stakeholders to understand operational challenges and future capability requirements.
• Shape opportunities before formal procurement activity begins wherever possible.
• Develop compelling consultancy propositions that align technical expertise with customer mission outcomes.

Capture, Proposal & Bid Leadership

• Lead capture activities across strategic Land and Joint Forces opportunities.
• Develop account plans, stakeholder maps, win themes and partner strategies.
• Coordinate proposal development activities involving engineering, commercial and delivery teams.
• Translate complex technical concepts into customer-focused and commercially compelling solutions.

Account Management & Growth

• Ensure successful transition from sales into programme delivery.
• Maintain engagement with customers throughout project execution.
• Identify follow-on opportunities and pathways for long-term account growth.
• Develop strategic account plans focused on repeat business and framework expansions.
• Act as the voice of the customer within the business, helping drive future service offerings and investment areas.

About You

• Proven success in Defence, Land Systems, Joint Forces, Aerospace, Security or related technology sectors.
• Experience selling consultancy services, engineering services, systems development or complex technical solutions.
• Strong understanding of UK Defence procurement and the wider defence ecosystem.
• Demonstrable experience managing the full business development lifecycle from prospecting through to contract award.
• Ability to engage effectively with military, technical, commercial and executive stakeholders.
• Strong account management, forecasting and pipeline development skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation capabilities.
• Experience developing and leading customer engagement and sales campaigns.
