Job Description:

Import Clerk - Basildon

Salary: £35,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm

We’re looking for an experienced Import Clerk to join the team and manage import shipments across both deep sea and European freight.

The role

• Manage import shipments from arrival through to delivery.
• Arrange shipping line releases for containers booked for delivery.
• Monitor and respond to customer emails and phone calls, providing helpful and timely updates.
• Liaise with customers, shipping lines, hauliers and colleagues to keep shipments moving.
• Support customers with import queries and resolve any issues that arise.
• Use your knowledge of IPAFFS and CHED documentation to support relevant shipments.

About you

• Experience as an Import Clerk or Import Operator, ideally covering both deep sea and European imports.
• Knowledge of IPAFFS and CHEDs, or practical experience working with them.
• Confident communicating with customers by phone and email.
• Organised, responsive and able to manage competing priorities.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Candidates with existing experience across these areas are preferred. We may also consider someone with relevant import experience who is keen to develop their knowledge through training.
