Shift Engineer

Circa £52,000

Continental Shift Pattern (5am – 5pm, 5pm – 5am)

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Shift Engineer to join a well-established food manufacturing site in Erith. Operating within a high-volume, fast-paced environment, you’ll play a key role in ensuring production equipment runs safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving and working as part of a collaborative shift team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities - Shift Engineer

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on manufacturing and packaging equipment
• Quickly diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime
• Support production teams to ensure machinery operates at optimal efficiency
• Complete preventative maintenance tasks in line with site schedules
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health & safety, food safety, and quality standards
• Accurately record maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
• Assist with equipment improvements, breakdown root cause analysis, and minor project work
• Work effectively on a continental shift pattern, handing over clearly between shifts

Qualifications & Experience - Shift Engineer

• Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
• Proven experience working within a manufacturing environment (food, FMCG, or similar highly regulated sector preferred)
• Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and/or electrical systems
• A proactive, team-focused approach with good communication skills
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and make sound engineering decisions
