Payroll Team Leader

📍 Brentwood (Hybrid – 2 days office)
💰 £44,000 + Discretionary Bonus
Contract: Permanent

The Role

A leadership role within a payroll bureau environment, responsible for managing a team and overseeing the delivery of payroll services to a portfolio of clients.

You’ll act as the key escalation point while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and high service standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee payroll delivery for a portfolio of clients, ensuring deadlines are met
• Supervise and manage a team, driving performance and development
• Act as escalation point for technical and client issues
• Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and internal procedures
• Monitor KPIs, profitability, and service quality
• Review and approve pension auto-enrolment setups
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and best practices
• Support client relationship management and service delivery
• Review team output and set clear performance objectives

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong end-to-end UK payroll experience
• Experience supervising or managing a payroll team
• Background in high-volume or multi-frequency payroll environments
• Good knowledge of payroll legislation and workplace pensions
• Strong Excel and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational ability
