Vocational Education Mentor – SEMH & SEND

Location: Basildon, Essex
Salary: £21,731–£24,195.50 + up to £2,500 annual bonus
Contract: Full Time | Permanent | Term Time Only
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm

New Chapter Tuition is recruiting a Vocational Education Mentor to join a specialist education provision in Basildon, supporting KS3–KS5 learners with SEMH, SEND, ADHD and behavioural needs.

This is a hands-on role combining vocational instruction, practical learning and behaviour mentoring, including activities involving mechanics and motorsport.

Working 1:1 and with small groups of up to eight learners, you'll help young people re-engage with education, develop practical skills and build confidence.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver and support practical vocational learning activities

• Instruct learners through mechanics and motorsport-based tasks

• Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement

• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

• Build trusting relationships and establish clear boundaries

• Support planning, preparation and learner progress

Who We're Looking For

We welcome candidates from education, youth work, behaviour support, alternative provision, mechanics, motorsport, coaching, Armed Forces or Cadet Forces backgrounds.

No teaching or mechanical qualification is required. We're looking for someone confident engaging young people, delivering practical activities and supporting learners with additional needs.
