Works Manager

Location: Colchester
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

An established and growing manufacturer of construction products is seeking an experienced Works Manager to lead its production operation in Colchester. This is a hands-on management role, ideal for someone with experience in heavy manufacturing, construction materials, concrete, aggregates, quarrying, precast, asphalt, recycling or other industrial production environments.

You will be responsible for managing a team of around 15 production staff, ensuring efficient manufacturing, maintaining quality standards and driving continuous improvement across the site.

Duties

• Lead and manage a team of 15 production operatives
• Oversee day-to-day manufacturing and production activities
• Plan and coordinate daily, weekly and monthly production schedules
• Drive productivity improvements and reduce waste
• Monitor quality, output and production performance
• Implement and maintain company procedures and policies
• Train, coach and develop production staff
• Ensure Health & Safety and environmental standards are met
• Investigate and resolve production issues
• Ensure products are prepared correctly for dispatch
• Oversee vehicle loading and on-time deliveries

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Works Manager, Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Factory Manager or Operations Manager
• Background within heavy manufacturing or construction product manufacturing
• Proven people management and leadership experience
• Strong understanding of production planning and continuous improvement
• Health & Safety knowledge (IOSH qualification desirable)
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Hands-on approach with the ability to lead by example
